📖 By default, for each product, Shopify allows users to create a maximum of 3 variant options and the total number of variants can be up to 100 variants.

What is a merged value?

A merged value lets you show one filter option that represents several underlying values.
Example: your product has 8 color variants (4 blues, 4 greens). In the Color filter, you merge the blues into Blue and the greens into Green so shoppers choose between two options, not eight.

To merge values

Step 1: Merge values

  1. From the app’s dashboard, go to Filter > Merge values

  2. Click Add merged value

  3. Select Type/Vendor/Title/Height/Size/Color/Tag in the Type drop-down list

  4. In the Merged value section, choose +Add new merged value

  5. Under the Merged value heading, enter the phrase into which you are about to merge some values. In the example above, you can enter Blue

  6. Under the Current values heading, select the corresponding values that you want to be merged into the values you have created above

For example, you can choose Navy, Turquoise, Teal, and Sapphire.

💡 One value can only be merged into one new value. In the example above, our app cannot merge Navy into Green when you have already merged it into Blue.

7. Make sure to save

Step 2: Sync data

  1. From the app’s dashboard, go to Settings > Sync overview

  2. From the Select a sync type drop-down, select Sync recent updates and click Sync recent updates. This will help you properly update the merged values on the storefront

Step 3: Update new values when setting up filter options.

  1. From the app’s dashboard, go to Filter > Filter trees

  2. Click the filter tree which has the filter option that you may want to update its values

  3. From the drop-down of Option values:

    • If you select All values, no modification has to be made

    • If you select Manual, you can add new values and remove values that have been merged into new ones. In the example above, you can remove Navy, Turquoise, Teal, and Sapphire, and add Blue

  4. Remember to Save on both the Edit filter option and Filter options pages

  5. Go to your storefront and check the new filter values
