Learn what TURBO is, what the Legacy versions (V1/V2/V3) mean, and how to check which version your theme is using.

Requirement

  • You need access to Boost admin.

  • Your store can have multiple Shopify themes, and each theme can be integrated with a different Boost version.

TURBO (latest version)

TURBO is Boost’s latest app version. It’s recommended if you want the newest storefront experience, the latest theme integration, and the most advanced customization tools.

Key highlights:

  • Faster, more modern storefront experience (TURBO theme integration)

  • Templates managed in Template Library and customized in Visual Editor

  • TURBO-only storefront features (depending on your setup), such as:

    • Bundles

    • Sell more features like pre-order and back-in-stock

    • Code Editor and Smart Styling

    • Compliance features (ADA/WCAG)

Legacy versions (Former V1, V2, V3)

V1, V2, and V3 are older generations of the Boost app. Stores may still be using them on older themes, but new development and the newest theme experience are centered around TURBO.

Former Version 3.0 (V3)

V3 introduced major improvements to Boost AI Search & Discovery and supports Visual Editor-based theme customization (less advanced than TURBO).

Former Version 2.0 (V2)

V2 introduced expanded filtering and search capabilities compared to V1.

Former Version 1.0 (V1)

V1 is the earliest generation and has more limited theme integration compared to newer versions.

⚠️ Recommendation feature note

Recommendations are built on V3 and TURBO. Using Recommendations while your live theme is on V1 or V2 can create a mixed-version setup and increase the risk of performance/data issues.

Feature availability (quick overview)

Some features are search-engine based (they affect the search engine rather than the theme), so they can work across versions.

Other features depend on theme integration and are available only when your live theme is integrated with TURBO (for example: Bundles, Sell more, Code Editor, Smart Styling, ADA/WCAG).

Check which version your theme is using (recommended)

  1. In Boost admin, go to Integration > Shopify Integration.

  2. In the theme list, find the theme you want to check.

  3. Look at the theme status/version label, for example:

    • Integrated (Version TURBO)

    • Integrated (Former Version 3.0)

    • Integrated (Former Version 2.0)

For example:

💡 If you have multiple themes, check each theme row. A duplicated theme may be on a different Boost version.

Upgrade your Boost version

If your theme is on a former version and you want TURBO, follow the upgrade instructions in:
