📖 If a theme in your store is running Boost V3, you can upgrade it to Boost Turbo. Some settings reset during the upgrade, so read this through before you start.
⚠️ Upgrading is only available if your theme's Boost version is 3.0. If you have just installed Boost, your theme is already on Turbo and you do not need this article.
Before you start
Always duplicate your live theme in Shopify and upgrade the duplicate. This lets you check the result before your shoppers see it, and roll back if you are not happy.
Two settings reset during the upgrade, because Boost Turbo replaces the previous templates with its own:
Filter layout returns to vertical. If your store used a horizontal filter layout, you need to set that again after upgrading.
The Instant Search Widget is turned off. It does not carry over, so you need to switch it back on in your theme settings after upgrading.
Set aside a few minutes to review your storefront afterwards and reapply anything that has changed.
Upgrade your theme
In your Boost app admin, go to Shopify Integration.
Find the theme you want to upgrade and click Upgrade.
Read the update notes, then click Upgrade to Turbo.
⚠️ Stay on this screen until the upgrade finishes. If you close the tab or navigate away, the upgrade is interrupted and you have to start again from the beginning.
Apply your widget template
When the upgrade finishes, the Widget Templates section appears with three options:
Apply puts the Turbo widget template onto your theme. You are asked to confirm first.
Preview in Visual Editor opens your storefront in a new tab with the upgraded theme, so you can check it before committing.
The three-dot menu gives you Revert, which rolls the theme back to V3.
💡 Use Preview in Visual Editor before you apply, so you can see exactly how your store will look.
Click Confirm to finish, or Cancel to stop.
⚠️ Applying the template cannot be undone. Make sure you have previewed the result and duplicated your live theme first.
After you upgrade
Set your filter layout back to horizontal if that is what you used before.
Turn the Instant Search Widget back on in your theme settings.
Check any custom code you had, since Turbo uses its own templates and custom code may need to be reapplied.
Review your storefront and confirm everything looks the way you expect.
To manage your templates after upgrading, follow How to manage Boost Templates in your Library.
