Privacy & Compliance Policy of Boost AI Search and Discovery

Our Privacy & Compliance Policy at Boost AI Search and Discovery

📖 At Boost Commerce, we always set Data Privacy as the top priority. We understand the importance and seriousness of our customer data toward the business. This article explains which permissions Boost asks for, what it can and cannot do with them, and how we handle your data.

Privacy & Compliance Policy of our app

We do not and will never share, disclose, sell, rent, or otherwise, provide personal information to other third parties or companies (other than to specific Shopify merchants you are interacting with, or to third-party apps or service providers being used by the merchants you are interacting with) for the marketing of their products or services.

Please refer to our Privacy Policy, Data Processing Agreement, and GDPR for more information:

What permissions Boost requests

When you install Boost, it asks for the permissions needed for its core features: search, filtering, and your collection and search pages. These are almost all read-only.

Core permissions

These let Boost read your store data so it can build search results, filters and rankings:

  • Products, and the sales channels they are published to

  • Inventory and locations

  • Markets

  • Languages and translations

  • Content, such as your blogs and pages

  • Orders

The one exception is your theme. Boost can read and edit theme files so it can add its search and collection pages to your storefront. This is what makes the automatic theme setup possible.

💪 With these core permissions, Boost cannot create orders, process orders, create discount codes or change your customers' details.

Permissions for add-on features

Some features need more than the core permissions. Boost only asks for these when you choose to turn a feature on, and you approve each one in Shopify. If you do not use those features, Boost does not have that access.

Feature

What Boost asks for

Personalised Search, Recommendations, Bundles and Shopify B2B

Read your customers.

Bundles

Read and create discounts. This is used for Predictive Bundles, and only when you use Bundles.

Pre-order

Create and update products, set up purchase options, and update orders to add the Pre-order tag.

Filters and swatches

Read your metaobjects.

Check what Boost has access to

You can see exactly what Boost has been granted at any time. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps > Boost AI Search & Discovery.

💡 As an app developer, requesting access to any store data goes through Shopify's approval process, which ensures we only request the permissions necessary for the app to work properly. We are committed to keeping merchant data secure and do not use customer data for any other purpose.

Staff (collaborator) access

Staff (collaborator) access is separate from the app's permissions. Our support team only has access to your Shopify admin if you approve a collaborator request. You may find this request in your email or on your Shopify home page.

When we ask, we request only what we need to help you:

  • Products

  • Themes

  • Apps

  • Markets

  • Content

We do not request access to orders, draft orders, discounts or customers.

You can review or remove our access whenever you like. Follow Shopify's guide to remove a collaborator.

Privacy & Compliance Policy FAQs

Why does your app require information about our customer's email address, phone number, IP address, etc.?

What we read. Boost's core permissions do not include reading your customers. Reading customer records is optional. Boost only asks for it if you turn on Personalised Search, Recommendations, Bundles or Shopify B2B, and you approve it in Shopify.

What we store. In our app, Store Owner Information and Store's customer information are considered personal data.

For Store Owner Information, we will remove all personal details and only keep the Email (Encrypted in the database), and the State/Country of the Store Owner. No names, addresses, or any other personal information is stored in our database once you have uninstalled our app.

For Store's Customers Information, we do not store any personal data of the store’s customers. Our app receives an Order hook from Shopify to update the availability of related products in the store, which includes some sections of customer information. However, all the personal-related data are automatically deleted as soon as the app receives the hook. Only product-related data are kept for data sync purposes.

Why does your app need access to our orders?

Boost reads your orders for two reasons:

  • Order Revenue analytics. This shows you the revenue that came through Boost. You can turn this feature off in your Boost admin, which turns the permission off as well.

  • Base GMV. Your Boost plan is priced on your Base GMV, and Boost reads your order history to work it out.

Boost does not create or process orders. The only time Boost updates an order is when you use Pre-order, which adds the Pre-order tag, and you approve that permission separately.

Why do we ask for a collaborator account?

With your approval of the collaborator request, we can access your store so we can check your issues. This is separate from the app's permissions, and you can delete our account whenever you want. For the exact access we request, see Staff (collaborator) access above.

We see that our data is modified. Are there any causes of your app?

Boost does not change your products, collections, orders or customers. The one thing Boost can edit is your theme files, which is how it adds its search and collection pages to your storefront.

If you turn on an add-on feature such as Pre-order or Bundles, you approve extra permissions in Shopify first. Those features can then create or update the items listed in Permissions for add-on features above.

Does your app remove our Shopify data (Product, Collection, etc.) after uninstallation?

Our app does not remove or delete any data or information from your Shopify store, such as images, products or collection details.
